V&A Illustration Awards

Soonchild was shortlisted for best book cover this year... didn't win sadly.  Very high standard of work on show.  Illustration in this country seems to be in good health!  Also amazing canapes.  Bodes well for the Memory Palace private view.

It is a shame that Soonchild hasn't won anything.  I owe Russell Hoban such a lot. It would have been nice to get some silverware for him!

Will try again with Jim's Lion...

  1. Soonchild is amazing. One of the all-time-best. Maybe you'll have to fashion your own shiny sticker... Although, come to think of it, you don't want to cover the polar bear's head ;-)

    1. Hadn't thought of that. Of course, there's no room for a sticker!

  2. Hi Alexis, found your blog! good to meet you the other day...sorry if I talked too much, I tend to do that anyway, but if i drink alcohol it gets a lot worse! Shame 'Soonchild' didnt win, probably one of my favourite covers of late (will pick up the book and check out the interiors as well) along with the vintage James Bond books...
p.s. good luck with the exhibition!

    1. Yes do! I found your blog too... I love that your book got a trailer. Did you animate it? You inspired me to upload my dodgy gifs of the lion drawings I made today (not that there was anything remotely dodgy about your trailer, mind! far from it ^-^!!)

    2. Yep, I made the trailer, have always wanted to do something in film at some point & thought making a trailer for the book would be able to show me what i could do... though I don't think ill do it again as some of the stuff is 25fps line drawn and then painted, way too much of a mission (specially as it was self initiated)! - Love the the Lion running gif, my next book is about a lion if you fancy doing some free animation work :)
